Bush Restoration
We are very lucky at Western Heights School to have a wonderful bush area.  Sadly, the bush is being overrun with weeds.
Room 3 are on a mission to clean up the bush area.

Our plans include
* clearing the bush area of weeds
* making Weta houses
* replanting native trees to encourage native birds
* creating pathways so we don't step on and destroy the growing seeds
* making signs for the trees so we know what they are called in English and Maori

We went to the bush with Derek, who showed us the native trees and told us which birds will come to eat the fruit from each tree.  He showed us which weeds we needed to remove to make the bush healthier.  We saw where birds had pooped seeds and how they were growing new trees.

Over the next few months we will be revisiting the bush and doing all we can to make it a healthier place for our native trees and birds.

Here are some photos from our first day of weeding.

 We learnt that the brown tops to the grass was from the frost.

 Weeds, weeds, and more weeds!

 Sometimes it was hard to tell what was a weed and
what wasn't, but we are learning fast.

Stay tuned to watch as we restore our bush.
